제목: Morphological and electrophysiological analysis for retina: From normal to degeneration
초록: Retina is a primary visual perception organ that is included in the central nervous system. With the increase in using smart devices and entering the aging society, the prevalence of retinal degeneration disease has abruptly increased. But its therapeutic strategies are still limited to symptomatic treatment. Thus, new treatment methods including stem cell therapy, artificial retina, organoid, and gene editing methods are suggested. However, the therapeutic effects of those treatment methods are still debated. For the exact evaluation of the therapeutic effects of the new strategies for retina degeneration, understanding the morphological and functional characteristics of the normal and diseases retina has to be preceded. Therefore, first, we will introduce morphological and electrophysiological analysis methods and characteristics of the normal retina. Next, we will present different types of photoreceptor degeneration models and discuss the benefits and precautions of each model when applying morphological and functional analysis.
